Jalopy Project

Speedway Jalopy Concept
The Speedway Jalopy Concept Car is a ASR Expo project to develop a circle track car using open wheel sprint car technology! Conceptionally the car would be light weight, have available racing parts, and have the ability to be fast, and handle or race like a Sprint Car!
The Jalopy package will be engineered to have a lower racing cost by using current sprint car technology, or race parts that every sprint car guy or gal may have in their garage or shelves. How easy would it be to buy a kit that provided a chassis, and body (Left Side-Right Side, aluminum Sheet Metal in Between) that would allow you to use your extra parts, or use the parts from that used roller chassis that may be in your garage to go racing, at a lower cost!
Of coarse, part of the lower cost comes also by racing with stock style small V8 engines being produced by GM, Ford, and Chrysler! Having spec hard Sprint Car tires in the rules, and light weight high dollar metals also not allowed in the rules, would also be simple factors about the ASR Expo Jalopy Project that may help it to work and be a Race Fan favorite!
By the way the wheel base would be 106 inch's minimum, using sprint car running gear, suspension components, firewall, and using the old bump start systems from an era from the past! The plan may consist of Three to four fiberglass body styles to choose from, 32 Ford Coupe, 34-35 Chevy Coupe, Vicky, and 33 willy's.
The engine package could be a simple and easy, 5.3 V8 stock engine running on gas or E85 with stock fuel injection! A carburetor system could be allowed with similar electronics, with rev-limiting controls!
Please if you have an enterest in the Speedway Jalopy Concept, please contact me in the form provided, I will post updates on this web site, and send you promotional information as it becomes available.

Technology Blast From the Past....

Fuel technology from the past....1963 Tucson, Az.
This photo is of a Super Modified from the early 60's, from Southern Arizona. As you may or may not tell the fuel tank is a pressurized Propane Tank, and in 1963 my father, Hal Burns Jr. thrilled fans and other racers with this 322 Buick powered Propane Super Modified! As you might also think their were those that thought that this 1963 Super modified experiment may make national headlines with a with a big BOOM, it did not! The 1963 Blue Flame Bottle Gas Special was carburated with 6 single barrel propane Carburetors, at the time it was new Technology!
A blast from the Past!!!!

Another Technology Blast from the Past

One of America's first chromoly build chassis, build from chromoly drive shafts. This was the brain child of Tucson's Hank Arnold and Roger McCluskey in the eary 1950's, the car was named the Party Doll! Arnold and McCluskey build several race cars in their days, but Arnold became most known for his early 60's creation with his blown Chevy powered Twister! Don Brown from Tucson, Arizona restored the Twister and is currently in the process of duplicating Party Doll as close to the original race car as possible.
Below Photo; The Twister being used as the Pace Car for the annual Hank Arnold Memorial at USA Raceway in Tucson, Arizona!
The Twister another creation coming from Hank Arnold, who had his grass roots racing from the Jalopy Days at the Old Rodeo Grounds Race Track in Tucson, Arizona, in the 50's!
Arnold choose to use a Blown Chevy 301 engine in the Twister, but their were times that he got the Twister so hooked up, he could not keep the front end on the ground! He did take the car to the knoxville National in the early 60's, but could not put enough weight on the front end to keep it on the ground! Hank Arnold won many Main Events with this car, in the Southwest!
